How Does it Work?
This tool takes your Google Drive file sharing URL, which is a URL that looks something like this:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sT67pVppV_7KpVKon_wPtdBdziQBkj8R/view?usp=sharing
And it extracts the file ID, the part between /d/ and /view, and puts it into a new URL that looks like this:
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=1sT67pVppV_7KpVKon_wPtdBdziQBkj8R
And that’s it! The new URL format causes Google Drive to serve the file directly as a download, instead of opening a preview. You can do this conversion yourself manually if you want to, this site just makes it a little bit easier.
The conversion happens entirely in your browser, your sharing URL is never sent or stored anywhere.

Important Notes

- If the file’s visibility is set to “Restricted,” only signed-in users who have been granted access will be able to download it. (We can’t help.)
- You can download any files uploaded to Google Drive. (Google Docs and Sheets files are now supported.) We are working on enabling downloads of Google Slides.
- For large files, the direct link may first open a page that says “Only files smaller than 100 MB can be scanned for viruses“. This page contains a button to download the file.
- Currently, you cannot use this tool to download Google Drive folders or files containing viruses.
- Restricted or view-only files cannot be downloaded. The link should be set to “Anyone with the link.”
